Service Description

SK&C Mental Health CentreThe Crisis Resolution Team is a 24-hour alternative to inpatient admission only for residents of South Kensington and Chelsea, i.e. people who would normally be admitted to SK&C beds. The Team is staffed by Doctors, Nurses and Social Workers.

Referrals are generally accepted via:

  • Community Mental Health Teams
  • Social Services & General Practitioners (when a Mental Health Act Assessment is being considered
  • A&E Departments and medical wards
  • Patients and their carers, (directly) if the patient has had previous contact with the team. (This must be agreed with the patient and their carer on their discharge from the Crisis Resolution Team)

Patients who self-present at the Unit (or at A&E Dept) are first assessed by the Duty Psychiatrist and if admission is being considered, a referral will be made to The Crisis Resolution Team.

Referrals will be taken when a patient has been assessed by a mental health professional as requiring an inpatient bed at the SK&C Mental Health Centre.

Self-presenting referrals are not accepted unless it has been previously agreed in a Care Programme Approach meeting.
