CPA Development –Have your Say!
The Trust’s current CPA Policy introduced in 2009 is available here:
Throughout March 2010 we consulted on a shorter revised version of the policy and some of the appendices setting out detailed points.
The main consultation has now closed –but comments on Care Co-ordinator Competencies (Appendix 7) can be submitted up to 30 April and comments on detailed issues can be submitted until the documents are finalised.
We want to thank everyone who commented. Comments broadly supported the plan to reduce the length of the policy by putting detailed points into separate appendices and developing a CPA Handbook for background information and good practice guidance. There were several comments on detailed points which will be reviewed at a meeting of the Trust’s CPA Steering Group in May. A summary of the comments received and responses to them will be put on the website after that.
Work can now proceed on the CPA Handbook and the remaining appendices on Timescales, Outcome Measures and Operational Guidance on using CPA in different services.
All of these will be issued for consultation in the near future. The policy will not be finalised until all the key documents are in place, so comments on specific points can be submitted until the final deadline.
This webpage will be updated as new documents are developed. In the meantime all the documents planned are listed on the table below, with links to those which have been issued so far.

Background Notes:
Appendices and Related Documents
Most of the appendices are being issued for consultation now. Appendix 7 : Care Co-ordinator Competencies sets out proposed additions to staff job descriptions so the consultation deadline is longer to allow fuller consideration: comments can be submitted up to 30 April 2010.
Other documents including the proposed new CPA Handbook setting out good practice and administrative guidance are all being developed and will be issued for consultation soon.
Developing New Forms
We are developing new forms to support changes in the CPA process, but this is a complex process.
The Trust is phasing in a single electronic database across all its services. Work is underway to develop forms which will integrate IT developments and new assessment requirements arising from local authority development of personalisation, self directed support and individual budgets.
There will be full consultation before any new forms are implemented.
CPA Audit
The Trust is planning a CPA audit starting in April this year. Auditors will inspect a random sample of files and local supervisors will be asked to look at notes as part of each supervision session. This provides opportunities to audit the quality of assessment and care planning.
We’re consulting on the audit tools to be used for both of those audits –please send comments by 31 March 2010.
